The Brazilian Ministry of Health has reported this Saturday that 978 people have died, so that the South American country accumulates 231,012 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic and has exceeded an average of 1,000 deaths per day in the last fifteen days.

The report also indicates that in the last 24 hours, 50,630 new positive cases of coronavirus have been detected, so that the accumulated cases reach 9.49 million.

This Ministry has announced this Saturday that they have begun to distribute 2.9 million doses of the Chinese CoronaVac vaccine and, in addition, the first batch for the production of the AstraZeneca vaccine has been received.

Brazil ranks as the third country with the most accumulated cases according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

THE PROBLEM OF RESPIRATORS IN BRAZIL

This Saturday, the Federal Police of Brazil has asked the Supreme Court of the South American country for authorization to prosecute the governor of the state of Pará, Helder Barbalho, for irregularities in the purchase of respirators for patients with coronavirus, according to the news portal G1.

In addition to the governor, seven other people would also be charged, including the former secretary of Health of the region, Alberto Beltrame, and the former undersecretary of Sanitary Administrative Management, Peter Cassol.

In recent weeks, the Brazilian Attorney General’s Office had also asked the Supreme Court to open an investigation to the Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello, for the lack of oxygen for covid patients in Manaus, which has caused the health collapse in the capital of the state of Amazonas.
