The Ministerial Decree, which has been in effect since its publication, prohibits entry “by land for foreigners from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru and Suriname”.
The text indicates that a separate decree will be issued later on the border with Uruguay.
The border with Venezuela was partially closed Tuesday evening.
Several senior Brazilian officials, including House Speaker Rodrigo Maya, have called for a full border closure.
Other countries in South America, such as Colombia, Chile, and Argentina, have taken tougher measures in recent days and have completely closed their land, sea, and air borders.
In Argentina, on Thursday, President Alberto Fernandez imposed a “preventive and compulsory” stone on the population from Friday to March 31, to combat the emerging Corona virus.
“We take care of the health of Argentines,” Fernandez said in a speech.
In Argentina, there are 128 HIV infections and three deaths.
And last Sunday, Argentina announced that it would close its borders and stop studies in all educational institutions to contain the spread of the new Corona virus.
