Brazil chooses the Terrestrial Force offer to modernize up to 201 EE-9 Cascavel armored vehicles

The open tender for the Manufacturing Direction of the Brazilian Army for the modernization of wheeled armored reconnaissance vehicles 6×6 Rattlesnake already has a winner: the Terrestrial Force Consortiummade up of companies Akaer, Universal Engineering y Opto Space and Defence. The selected companies offered a budget of 74.6 million reais (14.5 million dollars), for a minimum of 98 and a maximum of 201 units to modernize.

The Cascavel Modernization Program It will be divided into stages, first with the presentation of two prototypes and then with the manufacture and delivery of a pilot batch of seven armored vehicles. Within the consortium, Akaer -as the main contractor- will deal with the integration of the vehicle, Universal will be the systems integrator and responsible for the manufacture and Opto will deal with the sensors and electronic systems.

modernization

The scope of the upgrade includes the replacement of the analog firing system with a more modern one, with the installation of updated optronics, command and control (C2) systems and dedicated computers.

The turret of these armored vehicles will be retrofitted with a new electric rotation system and the power pack (motor + transmission) will be replaced, as well as the 90mm gun and suspension system.

A highlight of the package, due to its unprecedented nature in terms of brazilian armywill be the installation of an anti-tank guided missile launcher (ATGM), foreseen by contract for approximately 30% of the fleet to be modernized.

This launcher will have to be developed in Brazil, taking into account the missiles that are already in stock or in the process of being adopted by the Army, as is the case with the Spike Israeli, developed by Rafael.
