Brazil became champion of the women’s Copa America

Brazil became champion of the women’s Copa América, beating the host team, Colombia, 1-0 in the final.

The only goal of the match, played at the Alfonso López stadium in the city of Bucaramanga, was scored by Debinha, from a penalty, 39 minutes into the first half.

Beyond the result, both teams had already qualified for the 2023 Australia-New Zealand World Cup, just like Argentina, which yesterday beat Paraguay 3-1 in the match for third place.

The Paraguayan team and Chile, which finished fifth after beating Venezuela, will have to play a playoff in search of their ticket.

Big favourites, Brazil were a deserved champion after winning all six of their matches in the tournament.

In the initial phase they successively beat Argentina (4-0), Uruguay (3-0), Venezuela (4-0) and Peru (6-0); and in the semifinals he had beaten Paraguay, 2 to 0. That is to say, he scored a total of 20 goals and left with the fence undefeated.

The tournament’s top scorer was Argentina’s Yamila Rodríguez, with six, followed by Brazil’s Debinha and Adriana, with five.
