They led 8-0 in the first three minutes and turned ahead 53-52. However, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander immediately brought Canada back ahead 55-53 via a jump shot and one free throw.

Bruno Caboclo evened the score to 55-55 via a layup, but Canada immediately responded by shooting two points at Luguentz Dort, 57-55. Yago Santos’ two free throws again brought the match to a 57-57 draw.

Gilgeous-Alexander returned to bring Canada to a 59-57 lead through a jump shot that he released. Brazil responded with a two-point shot and a Caboclo free throw, bringing Brazil back ahead 60-59.

Dort’s free throws evened the score back to 60-60. Yago Santos then made two consecutive layups to put Brazil ahead 64-60 with 26 seconds remaining. Gui Santos’ two free throws with 13.6 seconds left changed the score to 66-60.

Dillon Brooks had scored two free throws to make it 62-66 with 10 seconds remaining, but Gui Santos made a layup to put Brazil ahead 68-82. With 0.9 seconds remaining, RJ Barrett scored three points to change the score to 65-68.

Caboclo scored a point on a free throw with 0.4 seconds left to make it 69-65, ensuring Brazil’s victory.

Caboclo became the star of Brazil’s victory with 19 points, followed by Gui Santos with 10 points. Seven other players scored in under double digits. Meanwhile, in the Canadian camp, Gilgeous-Alexander scored 23 points, followed by Dort with 17 points. The rest is under two digits.

With this result, Brazil opened wide the chance to reach the quarter-finals. They will meet Latvia in the final match of Group L, Sunday (3/9). Meanwhile, Canada will meet Spain. The two winners of that match will advance to the last eight.
