Brazil, one of the countries hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, banned provisionally the arrival of foreigners from India. This Asian nation has registered successive records of deaths and infections by coronavirus.
The ban on Indian passengers in Brazil will last 14 days.
The restriction is intended to prevent the spread in Brazilian territory of the strain identified in India as B.1.617. This variant has been classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global concern.
The entry of people who have been in UK or South Africa, where two other variants of alert arose.
On the other hand, Brazil faces a second wave of the most virulent and deadly pandemic, due to the spread of the variant P.1.
The decree that restricts the entry of passengers from India establishes exceptions to Brazilians, foreigners residing in the country, relatives of Brazilians, professionals on mission for international organizations and diplomats.
These passengers will be able to disembark after they present a negative Covid-19 test in the 72 hours prior to the flight. They must also carry out a 14-day quarantine.
