Brazil authorizes Pfizer vaccine against covid-19 in children from six months

Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Dec. 27 (Sputnik).- The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday its decision to extend the use of the covid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer for minors.

In a statement, the ministry reported that from now on the vaccine can be applied to all “infants and children aged between six months and four years and 11 months”.

Until now, the first doses of the so-called “Pfizer Baby” were used only in children between six months and two years and 11 months who had some kind of comorbidity.

This decision extends the covid-19 vaccination to minors, although it will continue to be done in stages, children first and gradually moving towards older children.

Brazilian authorities also recently reported that 2.8 million doses of the ambivalent BA.4/BA.5 vaccine arrived in the country on Sunday, December 25.

With this shipment, Brazil already adds 9.6 million Pfizer vaccines that protect against the original strain of the coronavirus and the two omicron subvariants. (Sputnik)
