CATAR.-The Brazilian soccer team will reevaluate Neymar’s status and will decide on his options to play again in the Qatar 2022 World Cup after Friday’s match against Cameroon.
The striker injured his right ankle in his first World Cup match against Serbia and was ruled out of the rest of the group stage.
Right-back Danilo and left-back Alex Sandro will not be featured in the final Group G match either wound.
“They’re making progress,” assistant Brazil coach Cléber Xavier said on Thursday. “We are focused on the match against Cameroon and then we will start the decision making process on these three players. We already have a plan ready for their return.”
Xavier didn’t provide further details on those plans. The Brazilian doctors have not given a date for the possible return of the Paris Saint-Germain striker, nor have they ensured that he will wear the yellow-green again in this tournament.
Brazil qualified for the round of 16 after the first two rounds and only need a draw with Cameroon to secure top position in the group.
Neymar he injured his back in the quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup and missed the rest of the tournament. Other wound in his right ankle prevented him from participating in the 2019 Copa América.
