Brazil registered another 1,689 deaths from coronavirus this Saturday (06/05/2021), bringing the total now to 472,531, as the country prepares to face a new wave of the pandemic, according to some authorities.
According to the Ministry of Health, another 66,017 cases were also found this Saturday, bringing the number of accumulated infections to 16,907,425.
Likewise, almost 1.2 million people are under observation, which indicates that the pandemic continues out of control and, according to many specialists, will be taxed in the coming weeks, given the imminence of the southern winter and the higher incidence of various respiratory diseases .
Half of the states in serious health crisis
According to the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FioCruz), a reference in scientific matters, at least 13 of the 27 states of the country are facing a worsening of the health crisis, which should be even worse in the coming weeks.

“Faced with the current context, we recommend caution in relation to the measures to make the prevention and social distancing recommendations more flexible,” which have been relaxed throughout the country, the scientific institution warned.
Rio prepares for new wave
One of the regions in which the situation tends to worsen is Rio de Janeiro, whose governor, Claudio Castro, acknowledged this Saturday that this state may face a new wave of the pandemic and affirmed that the authorities are already preparing for it.
“We are preparing and strengthening the hospital network,” said Castro, although he insisted that the fact that the city of Rio de Janeiro will be one of the venues for the Copa América football match, which will begin on June 13 in Brazil does not represent a new threat to the health of citizens.
The Copa América was to be held jointly in Colombia and Argentina, but for reasons of public order in the first case, and health in the second, both countries gave up, so the organization was entrusted to Brazil, despite which is one of the countries most affected by the pandemic in the world.
