The Brazilian Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, announced this Sunday the end of the Public Health Emergency triggered by Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic thanks to the improvement in the care capacity of those infected and a high vaccination rate.
This announcement, however, “does not mean the end of Covid-19”, as explained by Queiroga in a speech broadcast on national television, where he assured that the Ministry of Health will remain vigilant to adopt the necessary actions to guarantee the health of Brazilians.
“Thanks to the improvement in the epidemiological scenario, the broad vaccination coverage of the population and the care capacity of the health care system (SUS), we can announce the end of the Public Health Emergency of National Importance”, said the minister, who confessed that Brazilians will continue to live with the virus.
The omicron variant hit Brazil in early 2022, thus reaching several consecutive records of daily positives. At the moment, infections have stabilized, registering last Sunday the lowest number of deaths in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has been pressuring Queiroga to take this measure, since he is running for re-election, which will be in October 2022, according to reports Folha de S.Paulo.
