BRAZIL WORLD CHAMPION 1986

On Sunday, June 29, 1958, at the Rasunda Stadium in Stockholm, Brazil beat the local Sweden 5-2 in the 1958 World Cup final. It closed an exceptional campaign led by a young man of only 17 years called Edson Arantes do Nascimento, more known as Pele.

Two goals from the lush Pelé, two from Vavá and a goal from Mario Zagallo sealed Brazil’s great 5-2 victory over the Swedes.

For Brazil it meant a rematch 8 years after losing the local final against Uruguay. Until today he is the team with the most titles in the history of the world championships with 5 championships achieved.

ARGENTINA WORLD CHAMPION 1986

Also on Sunday, June 29, but in 1986 at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico, Argentina defeated Federal Germany 3-2 in the World Cup final.

La Albiceleste won 2-0, tied Germany 2-2 and Burruchaga scored the winning goal for the team captained by the extraordinary Diego Maradona.

Argentina’s goals through José Luis Brown, Jorge Valdano and Jorge Burruchaga. Germany’s goals were scored by Karl Heinz Rummenigge and Rudi Vòller.

End of a great campaign with 6 wins and a draw. With a Diego Armando Maradona as a super figure in the World Cup. Second title for the South American national team after winning at home in 1978.
