Brazil and Argentina lead Latin American participation among the 100 Govtech 2021 in Latin America | AmericaEconomy

After creating a software For the accurate management of citizen social assistance information, the Brazilian startup Gesuas currently serves more than 100 municipalities in 18 states that have achieved a direct impact on the quality of the actions carried out under the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS) of the federal government. With this, more than 1.5 million families in situations of vulnerability and at risk of exclusion in Brazil have benefited from this tool that integrates the teams and reports of social aid services.

And it is that beyond generating greater efficiency in the attention and follow-up of cases, eliminating the use of paper, automating part of the filling of forms and integrating the entire social assistance network, during the pandemic the Gesuas solution helped create the first online version of SUAS medical records and tools for scheduling medical appointments remotely.

Gesuas is one of the 25 Latin American startups that make up the List IE Govtech 2021, carried out by the Govtech Lab Madrid of IE University and which highlights the 100 startups, scale-ups, and digital SMEs with the greatest impact capacity in Latin America and Spain within the ecosystem govtech.

In its second edition, as in the previous one, the presence of 75 Spanish companies stands out, followed by seven Brazilian, five Argentine, four Chilean, four Mexican, three Colombian, one Uruguayan and one Venezuelan.

This year, one of the novelties of this list is that it brings together 41 new startups compared to the previous edition because the pandemic has made the potential of this market visible, has generated new demand from public institutions and many innovative companies are starting to look at the public sector as an interesting customer. In fact, 70% of the selected initiatives have public administrations as clients.

“In its second edition of the IE List Govtech We have tracked the entire ecosystem to detect emerging initiatives that offer solutions to improve public service to citizens. In it, there are a large part of initiatives that already work hand in hand with public institutions, but also projects with clear value for the public that have yet to be discovered by municipal, state or other government governments. . A year of pandemic has revealed the potential of the govtech to improve, facilitate and bring administrations closer to the citizen, as well as the catalytic role of govtech to achieve the SDGs ”, he says Idoia Ortiz de Artiñano, director of the PublicTech Lab at IE University.

And while the participation of startups of Latin America represents only 25% of the total, the presence of Brazilian and Argentine enterprises with 12 companies on the list is important. Also, the potential for more companies to join this list is high.
