Brazil: 4 players banned for suspicious COVID evidence

Four players were banned from a game corresponding to a state championship in Brazil on Thursday, on suspicion that they tried to falsify their COVID-19 tests.

The Paraná state soccer federation reported that Gabriel Oliveira, Lapa, Castro and Enzzo, from the small Cascavel team, were disqualified from playing against Athletico. His club only recognized that the players had a fever without testing positive for the coronavirus.

Athletico thrashed Cascavel 3-1 on the fourth date of the local tournament.

According to the protocols against COVID-19 of professional soccer in Paraná, teams must test all players and their staff at least three days before each game.

The four players are being investigated by the state sports court after a laboratory reported that they had not been tested for COVID-19 on the indicated dates, according to the soccer federation.
