Brazen scam: Fraudsters pretend a fatal traffic accident and stole money in Heidenheim

As reported by the police, previously unknown fraudsters tried their scam in the Heidenheim district and in the region on Monday. They called seniors in 22 cases.

The perpetrators tried nine times in the district of Biberach, seven times in Ulm, three times in the Alb-Donau district, twice in Göppingen and once in Heidenheim. The alleged police officers and prosecutors wanted to rob their victims of their savings by lying about accidents.

As a rule, they were dismissed because the person called saw through the attempted fraud. The scam worked in Heidenheim.

Fraudster stole money in Heidenheim

In the district of Heidenheim, the strangers stole money when the alleged police officers reported on the phone to a couple from Neu-Ulm about a fatal traffic accident. To avert a prison sentence for the daughter, the scammers wanted bail.

The couple from Neu-Ulm handed money to a man on Monday evening at 7:20 p.m. in Heidenheim’s Rosenstrasse. According to the police, this should be about 25-30 years old and about 1.70 meters tall. He had a stocky build, according to the witnesses, and was wearing a black winter jacket with “NorthWest” written on it. He also wore black pants and a face mask.
