Rio – A widespread brawl shocked residents of the Flamengo and Botafogo neighborhoods, in the South Zone of Rio, on Wednesday night (23). Flamengo and Botafogo fans clashed on the streets of the neighborhoods, in a confrontation that left at least five men injured, including one shot. The confusion happened moments after the classic at the Nilton Santos stadium, in the North Zone of Rio.

Videos recorded by the residents of the buildings show that the fans faced each other with sticks, stones and even fireworks around 11 pm. It is possible to identify the presence of the Jovem do Flamengo and Fúria Jovem do Botafogo fan groups.

The Fire Department reported that it rescued Thaison F. de Abreu, 31, to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, in Gávea. Thaison was beaten on Rua Paulo VI, in Flamengo, at the height of the neighborhood’s subway station. His health condition is stable. Three other victims of the beating were treated and released at the scene.

At another point in the confusion, on Rua Barão de Itambí, in Botafogo, a man was shot and rescued by an ambulance by Samu.

The brawl was accompanied by at least ten vehicles and dozens of military police. Via Twitter, the corporation reported that “police from the 2nd BPM (Botafogo) intervened in a fight between Flamengo and Botafogo fans, in the Flamengo neighborhood. It was necessary to send troops from other units to contain the violence.”

The PM also said that “Botafogo fans were rescued by the Fire Department. An aggressor was arrested. Still in the stadium, the use of force was necessary to contain other sources of violence”.
