Against the election of Sanjay Singh as WFI president BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh Sharan ridiculed the protest of wrestlers. Wrestlers are protesting sitting on the lap of Congress. No one will come to support them. That’s why other stars are not supporting the protesters. Brij Bhushan asked if he should hang himself to fight them. The protest of the stars is alleging that Sanjay Singh is a close aide of former WFI chief Brij Bhushan.
“There has been no progress in wrestling for more than 11 months. A fair election was held and Sanjay Singh alias Bablu was elected from our camp with a clear majority. The other candidate lost by 33 votes. “The aim of our camp is to work for the betterment of sports,” he said.
‘Say, if the top wrestlers are still protesting and Sakshi Malik has stopped wrestling, what can I do to help?’ he asked.

Why protest against Brij Bhushan?
The trouble started when seven wrestlers, including a minor, made allegations of sexual assault against Brij Bhushan. Top Olympians including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia have been protesting for months demanding Brij Bhushan’s arrest. Meanwhile, the protest ended in June when the charge sheet was filed against Brij Bhushan Singh Saran. More than five months of protest came to an end.
Bajrang Punia returned the Padma Shri
Tokyo Olympics medalist Bajrang Punia returned his Padma Shri award amid protests against Sanjay Singh’s appointment as WFI president. The star also wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The actor informed about this through a post shared on X. Earlier, Rio Olympics bronze medalist Sakshi Malik announced her retirement from wrestling. This is followed by Bajrang Punia’s move.
“I am returning my Padma Shri award to the Prime Minister. This is a letter to say that…’, the actor wrote on X.
Dear Prime Minister, I hope you are in good health. You must be busy with many tasks. But I am writing this to bring to your attention what is happening to wrestlers in the country. You will know that women wrestlers in the country started protesting against Brij Bhushan Singh in January this year, accusing him of sexual assault. I also joined their protest. The protest ended after the government promised strong action’, the actor says in the letter.
Even after three months of the protest, there was no FIR against Brij Bhushan. So we hit the streets again in April. With this, Delhi Police filed an FIR against him. In January, there were 19 complainants. But the number has dwindled. It became 7 in April. This means that Brij Bhushan exerted his influence and forced the other 12 wrestlers to withdraw their protest,’ Poonia added.
A great victory in the election
On December 21, the election was held in New Delhi for 15 posts including President, Treasurer, Secretary General and Senior Vice President. Sanjay Singh won the presidential election by 40 votes to 7. Singh is the Vice President of Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Federation. Singh defeated former Commonwealth Games gold medalist Anita Sheoran. Sheoren is from Haryana and contested from Odisha. With the win, Sheoran aimed to become the first female president of a national wrestling organization. But when the results came in, Sheoran managed to get just seven votes.
After this, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat attended the press conference called by the stars to protest. Actors protested the election of Bij Bhushan’s business partner and close aide Sanjay Singh as the president of WFI. As part of this, Sakshi Malik announced that he is quitting wrestling. The actor left the stage by taking off his boots and making a red-eyed announcement on the table.
