A pigeon has chosen an equally special and dangerous place in Venlo to build its nest. The creature chose to breed in the tower of the Basilica of St. Martin, right next to the nest of a peregrine falcon. That while peregrine falcons regularly have pigeons on the menu. It can also all be followed live via a webcam. “I think it will be a buffet,” says a person involved 1Limburg.

It looks comical, how the pigeon and peregrine falcon are brooding together. Through webcam shows how the birds keep watch on their nest. Sometimes they even stagger past each other.

But Joop Janssen of the Venlo District Consultation, which is partly responsible for the webcam, fears that it will soon be possible to see live how the pigeon is eaten. “Peregrine falcons sometimes eat several pigeons a day”, he tells 1Limburg.

Unwise
Why the pigeon has settled so close to its natural enemy is a mystery to Janssen. “We have been in contact with an expert”, said the Limburger. “He also finds it very remarkable and unwise about the pigeon.”

Janssen estimates that if the eggs of the peregrine falcon hatch, the pigeon will soon be over. “If the mole falcon has to start feeding her young, I think it will be a walking buffet. I think it will end very badly with the pigeon. It is possible that viewers will soon see images that are not very nice via the webcam. ”
