Brave judges are needed to defend DH: Minister Pardo

Mexico City. A robust constitutional architecture is not enough to achieve the protection of people’s human rights, if there are not honest and brave judges to make them effective, stated the minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN). , Jorge Mario Pardo Rebolledo.

“That is why today I call on all of us who participate in the security, procurement and administration of justice systems to not only be upright and brave, but so that beyond the natural differences that we may have in the performance of our functions, let us assume with responsibility and commitment our role of serving the citizens in the sensitive work that we carry out every day of dispensing justice in our country.”

When inaugurating the sixth session of the National Meeting for a Security and Justice Agenda, convened by the Court and the Federal Judiciary Council (CJF), which was held in Toluca, Pardo Rebolledo pointed out that justice becomes a higher public activity , which strengthens the fabrics that question social life, while representing the achievement of one of the responsibilities of the State towards its governed, it is a fact, he said, that in the consolidation of democracies the institutions of administration of justice have a transcendent role.

“I am certain that one of the pillars of democratic societies is the confidence that people have that public institutions will fulfill the purposes for which they have been created, hence the importance of stopping and questioning how the authorities have acted.” “We are in charge of the areas of public security, procurement and administration of justice, since everything we do or fail to do will directly impact the functioning of our democracy and naturally, our rule of law.”

For this reason, he considered it essential to estimate that a deficit in security and justice, by definition, implies a lower level of respect and guarantee for human rights; thus, he noted, the three fundamental pillars for the analysis and definition of a security agenda and justice must be: democracy, the rule of law and human rights.

“Mexican society and its daily life are increasingly complex, which inevitably increases the propensity for conflict and violence. It is urgent to recognize, study and disaggregate our complex social fabric in order to prevent and address the multiple and painful forms of violence.” that afflict us, as well as their causes and consequences.”

He also considered the amparo trial as a fundamental pillar in the protection of human rights, rights such as freedom, dignity, equality, security, property, among many others; The permanence and evolution of this instrument, fundamental to guarantee the effectiveness of human rights, translates into ensuring any inhabitant of this country the possibility of defending themselves against acts of authority that are considered unconstitutional.

“It is also important to defend the independence of the Judiciary against attacks that seek to undermine it, as an established guarantee for those who go to court and not as a privilege of the judging people, judicial independence is not about a power game, nor “It is power that is at stake, but rather the rights enshrined in our Constitution and in the international treaties signed by our country.”
