E Channel’s ‘Brave Detectives 3’ provided ‘Brave Detectives 3’ The identity of the sex crime criminals was revealed.
In the 24th episode of E Channel’s ‘Brave Detectives 3’ (directed by Ji-seon Lee), which aired on the 2nd, Inspector Lim Hee-seop of the Yongin Eastern Police Station’s violent team, Inspector Park Hyeon-cheon of the Gangseo Police Station’s Airport District Unit, Inspector Lee Chan-ho of the Chungbuk Police Agency’s Violent Crime Investigation Team, and Kim Jae-won of the Women and Youth Department of the Cheongju Sangdang Police Station. The inspector appeared and opened the investigation log.
The first incident began with reports of a woman dead in a motel room. The woman entered the room with a man wearing a black hat, and the man later left the room alone. After checking the CCTV, the investigative team found another suspicious man visiting the room. After the ‘hat man’ left, he knocked on the woman’s door. It turned out that he was a member of a prostitution ring.
The deceased was a 14-year-old middle school girl who had been reported missing. The autopsy results showed that the cause of death was cervical compression asphyxiation. As a result of the autopsy, a drug called ‘chloroform’, an anesthetic used in industry and animal taxidermy, was detected. The investigation team identified a chat app where gang members search for and meet sex buyers. At the time, the chat room was not deleted, so the ID and IP address remained, and the ‘hat man’s’ movements before entering the motel were traced back and succeeded in identifying him.
The culprit, Mr. Shin, was a man in his late 30s. He denied the crime, but changed his statement by saying that he had no intention of killing the deceased middle school girl when the DNA from her fingernails was confirmed to be his. Shin sparked outrage by saying that he put the middle school girl to sleep with drugs and then strangled her to make her pass out in order to extort the money he paid for her prostitution. He was sentenced to 40 years.
The second was a case in which a special investigation team was formed to catch a serial robber and rapist who committed 27 crimes from 2003 to 2009. Detectives conducted an undercover investigation without shifts for 101 days. The same DNA was found in 5 of the 27 cases. The reason why the 22 cases in which DNA was not found were collected together with 5 cases was because the crime area and intrusion method were similar. The criminal who used the contraceptive device mainly targeted women living in low-class single-person households, but also committed crimes against women living with her friends and married women.
Because the crime was committed while blocking the victim’s view, the victims remembered the criminal as a man in his 20s or early 30s. Detectives received a list of ex-convicts arrested for similar crimes and selected men in their 20s and 30s. There were a whopping 12,800 people. The dedicated team searched DNA during the day and went into hiding in separate areas in the evening.
While conducting DNA inquiries and undercover investigations, I learned that there was a case that could overturn the investigation so far. The report was that a thief who broke into a studio apartment ran away after being seen by the landlord, and the reporter said that the thief looked like he was in his late 40s. Accordingly, the dedicated team reset the age range.
The dedicated team changed the direction of the investigation by putting themselves in the criminal’s shoes, predicting the location of the crime, and then focusing on marking that location. On the 101st day of the undercover investigation, a long shadow was captured at the undercover location. Sensing that he was the culprit, he chased after him and succeeded in apprehending him. He was Mr. Lee, a serial robber and rapist.
Mr. Lee, who was the head of a family in his 40s and had a record of aggravated rape, shocked people by saying that he used birth control out of fear of contracting a sexually transmitted disease. Mr. Lee, who was found guilty of a total of 32 crimes, including additional crimes that were not reported, was sentenced to life imprisonment.
