Amelia has a steadfast character and does not give up hope that one day there will be medication available to treat her illness.
The girl’s diagnosis is FOP or fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva – a rare and progressive connective tissue disease.
When Amelia was born, the pathology of both feet was discovered, the sixth phalanges of the fingers had begun to develop, which were successfully operated on. Around 2020, health problems began, and after long and exhausting examinations, a rare and frightening diagnosis was made.
Regardless of the difficulties, the reporter attends kindergarten, builds play constructor houses with great interest, swims and plays with her dog Larry. Parents emphasize that she has a steadfast character and Amelia does not deviate from what she set out to do. She is the only one in Latvia with this diagnosis, so she has to go to Germany to monitor the disease, and the family also hopes that one day medicines will be available for the disease.
