On the bench is the singer’s signature and part of the lyrics of the song Mesto spi, which is about Bratislava. On November 10, a year has passed since the singer’s death and dozens of people have remembered this sad anniversary on the bench.
Žbirka lived in Bratislava until the 90s, was a member of the bands Modus and Limit, then moved to Prague. “We lived in Bratislava for four years and our daughter Linda was born here. When I come here, I feel like I’m coming home,” Žbirková told TASR news agency.
Bratislava mayor Matúš Vallo stressed that he really likes the fact that Žbirka in the park looks like a simple bench to sit on. And maybe he can play guitar like Meky did. “He is very effective with his signature and text,” said Vallo.
