Series leader Vålerenga had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home against Brann in Saturday’s top league match. Substitute Rakel Engesvik secured a draw with a great score.
It was a solid result for title defenders Brann, who have suffered a surprising amount this spring. In the previous match against VIF in April, they led twice, but lost 2-3.
On Saturday it went towards defeat again, but Brann’s coach made a smart move by substituting Engesvik in the 2nd half.
After 71 minutes, she made her mark in fine fashion when she received the ball on the left flank, pulled away from Ingibjörg Sigurdardóttir and pulled into the box before pounding the ball into the near corner between two Vålerenga defenders.
The aforementioned Sigurdardottir had sent the home team just after the change of sides. She headed in a corner from Andrine Tomter in a situation where national team goalkeeper Aurora Mikalsen made a weak involvement.
RBK takes over
VIF is still unbeaten in the Toppserien and leads with 37 points from 15 games. Rosenborg are six points behind with one game less played after 4-0 over Arna-Bjørnar on Saturday.
Trønder started well at home and led 2-0 already after 13 minutes. Anna Jøsendal, Elin Sørum (penalty), Matilde Rogde and Emilie Nautnes scored for RBK in a match where all the goals came before the break.
Mo-hattrick
Åsane also won 4-0 at home against Lyn. Andrine Mo scored a hat-trick for the hosts, while Lyn had to play 20 minutes with ten players after Kristin Holmen was sent off.
At the same time, Stabæk seemed to be fighting for a strong victory at home against Røa, but the hosts made a penalty kick in the last regular minute of play and lost the lead. Kristin Haugstad scored on the penalty and secured 2-2.
