– A draw away from home against Vålerenga is important, goal scorer Engesvik says to VG.

– A very good performance by Rakel, states teammate Elisabeth Terland, who thinks that Brann was cheated for a penalty kick earlier in the match when a shot hit a Vålerenga player in the arm.

– As the match developed, we are a little disappointed, but 1-1 against the gold favorite Brann is good, says Vålerenga goalkeeper Guro Pettersen.

Both teams stood with a full pot before this match. Both have also replaced with goals, but Vålerenga led the table thanks to only one setback in the first seven league games. The Oslo club had not conceded a single goal at Intility Arena earlier this season.

Now the two top teams are at the top of the table with 22 points, Vålerenga is ahead by one goal more scored. Rosenborg barely managed to catch up after 0-0 away against LSK Women. RBK is in third place with 19 points, but Trøndelag has played one game more.

– It is a bit sad that we give up the lead, says Vålerenga coach Nils Lexerød.

– Even and close top match, Brann coach Alexander Straus sums up and states that there are two good teams that met at Intility.

And the hosts took the lead 1-0 early thanks to two defenders. Malin Skulstad Sunde played beautifully through to Janni Thomsen, who used the speed and shot in goal from a rather difficult angle on the right. It is her sixth league scoring in 2022, but it was another shot that Brann goalkeeper Aurora Mikalsen takes several days a week.

Wanted punishment

Brann wanted a penalty midway through the first half, but was rejected by referee Karoline Marie Jensen. The ball was kicked in the arm of Ingibjörg Sigurdardottir. What was right? Well, raise your hand those who understand the rules of hand in football!

– We have to put higher pressure on Brann in the second half, says Vålerengas Stine Ballisager Pedersen in the break interview.

But it could instead have been an equalizer for the Bergen team when Vålerenga goalkeeper Guro Pettersen had Zalo on his gloves when she went out and took a post. Luckily for the Oslo club, Brann did not manage to take advantage of the miss.

Bakrom

But after 75 minutes it was ready for 1-1. Rakel Engesvik got a long ball in the back room from Lise Fjeldstad Naalsund – and Engesvik took advantage of the opportunity perfectly alone with Guro Pettersen. This is Engesvik’s third goal of the season.

– It was a nice backroom ball, and I was lucky with the touch, says Engesvik.

It gave Brann new energy in front of 1201 spectators at Intility, and Lise Fjeldstad Naalsund should have used the opportunity better when she was allowed to stand completely unpressurized and shoot from 17 meters.

Brann suffered its last loss in the cup final in 2021 against Vålerenga.

Before the match, Vålerenga came with a small stab against Brann and Bergen with one promo video on social media.

Brann had to play without Signe Gaupset who plays J17-EM with Norway.

Today’s results:

Avaldsnes-Stabæk 0–1, Kolbotn-Arna-Bjørnar 2–0, Røa-Lyn 0–2, Vålerenga-Brann 1–1.
