“Branie Podcast Looks Ahead to Ajax-PSV Clash and the Future of Ajax’s Trainer”

| by Jesse Ter Haar

Ajax and PSV did what is expected of them last weekend: beat the little ones. Where PSV won 2-3 at FC Volendam, Ajax won 3-1 against FC Emmen. The two teams will face each other on Sunday in Eindhoven, followed by the cup final a week later. Branie, the podcast of Het Parool and Ajax Showtime, looks ahead to next week’s top match, to the cup final and to next season.

Ajax will have to do it in Eindhoven on Sunday without the suspended Edson Álvarez. Dick Sintenie of Het Parool calls that ‘a problem’. ‘Álvarez is Ajax’s best defender and also the only header’, says Sintenie. In Branie, where presenter Menno Pot and Jesse ter Haar, deputy editor-in-chief of Ajax Showtime are also guests, also talk about Ajax – FC Emmen, the roles of Jorge Sánchez and Florian Grillitsch and the excellent statistics of Dusan Tadic. The question is: what will his role be next season?

Who will be Ajax’s trainer next season?

As in recent weeks, Branie is also about John Heitinga. Should he stay or? ‘I would consider it a Van Nistelrooij-like gamble,’ says Pot. ‘And I think that Ajax should not do that at the moment.’ Ter Haar adds: ‘On the other hand: Ajax now has a German technical director. Then a trainer with the Ajax DNA might be desirable.’

Branie will be back next Monday, of course. Then we look back at the match between PSV and Ajax and we know much more about the battle for that coveted Champions League ticket. For now it’s time to look back at the past weekend and look ahead to PSV with the latest episode of Branie!

Branie can be listened to every Monday afternoon at 12:00 this season via Spotify, iTunes and our website. Listen to the new episode now!
