“Brandons Promenade: End-of-Day Markets and Barrel Organ Festival Return in May”

End of May marks the resumption of end-of-day markets on the Brandons promenade and a weekend dedicated to the barrel organ festival.

Thursday 25 May: market on the banks of the Rhône

It is the resumption of bimonthly markets, Thursday at the end of the day along the banks of the river. About fifty exhibitors will set up their stalls presenting a wide choice of articles and gourmet products: jewellery, world crafts, decoration, clothing, fashion accessories, linens, candles, soaps, postcards, watercolours, photos, beers , roast chickens, cold meats, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, fruit juices, jams, wines, teas, coffees, infusions… Caterers and foodtrucks will offer preparations to eat in or take away. A musical group and entertainment for children will enhance this busy walk.

Upcoming market dates: Thursdays, June 8 and 22, July 6 and 20, from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Quai des Brandons.

Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May: barrel organ festival

For a weekend, the banks of the Rhône will resound to the sound of the cranks of 110 barrel organ turners, from all over France and elsewhere. From the Place des Brandons to the inter-municipal swimming pool, this will be an opportunity to stroll along the banks of the river and sing the song with these mechanical music enthusiasts who skilfully revisit the atmosphere of the guinguettes of yesteryear.

Among the attractions…

Paul Fernique, storyteller and musician from Strasbourg will perform tunes from the 70s and 80s.

Alain Debyser, turner, singer and ventriloquist, will be assisted by Arthur, his cheeky puppet.

Jean-Michel Domincziak, mime-statue.

Antoine Duperray, who was mayor of Oingt en Beaujolais, the most beautiful village in France and capital of mechanical music with its museum and festival, will operate his monumental Orchestrion.

Gérard Lefel will sound his alphorn, an extraordinary instrument of mountain cowherds, somewhat incongruous on the banks of the Rhône.

Wooden merry-go-round and clownish wanderings with Dame Tessotte and Valentinois Louis Boulon.

Saturday May 27 from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Sunday May 28 from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Snack and refreshment bar. Free entertainment.
