In September, Brandon Wen will become the new artistic coordinator of the fashion training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. The American will also teach.
Wen, who was born in Los Angeles in 1993, graduated from the Antwerp Fashion Department in 2019. He also studied at Cornell University in New York. He worked in Paris and designed for Rick Owens, Michèle Lamy and Maison Lemarié/Chanel, among others. On Instagram, he called his appointment “a huge honour.”
‘He convinced us with his generous creativity, strong drive, fresh ideas and great unifying force’, says Johan Pas, head of the Academy and chairman of the selection committee in a press release. ‘With Brandon Wen we are radically opting for an international, interdisciplinary and innovative profile.’
Walter Van Beirendonck, the figurehead of the Fashion Department for many years, will soon be retiring. He has led the fashion school since 2007. He recently presided over the year-end parade of the renowned fashion school for the last time.
