American Brandon Nakashima qualified for the second round of the Washington tournament, beating Australian Aleksandar Vukic (7-6 [5]7-6 [9]), Tuesday evening, French time.
In the tiebreak of the second set, Nakashima saved two set points – at 6-5, and 7-6 – before winning 10-8 on his third match point.
Vukic, who made his first ATP final on Sunday, had played three of his last four matches in straight sets.
Nakashima, ranked No. 70 in the ATP, will face No. 15 seed Andy Murray in the second round of the Washington Open.
