But the most accurate kicker in the NFL right now is Brandon Aubrey of the Dallas Cowboys. He converted all of his 30 field goal attempts so far this season. But the 28-year-old never actually dreamed of getting into the NFL.

Aubrey started playing soccer at the age of 10. He developed with the Dallas Texans 95 Red and Dallas Texans SC before making the jump to college. From 2013 to 2016, Aubrey played Division I football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and made 76 appearances and a total of 15 goals in four years.
After college, Aubrey was im MLS SuperDraft selected with the 21st overall pick by Toronto FC. But after just one year, Aubrey’s contract was terminated. He then signed with Bethlehem Steel in the USL until he finally gave up his football career at the end of 2018.
The path to becoming an NFL kicker
A year after his football career, the software engineer studied an NFL game with his girlfriend. One team’s placekicker missed the extra point and his girlfriend said the four words that gave Aubrey an idea: “You could have done it.”
From 2019 to 2022, Aubrey teamed with former Mississippi State kicker and kicking coach Brian Egan to prepare for a career as a kicker. As a result of his preparation, the then 27-year-old was signed by the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL and played his first American football game on April 16, 2022. In two seasons with the Stallions, Aubrey converted 32 of 37 field goal attempts and 57 of 59 extra points.
On July 6, 2023, Aubrey signed with the Dallas Cowboys, his hometown NFL team. So far, the 28-year-old has a 100% field goal percentage (30/30) in his rookie season. Last night against the Philadelphia Eagles, Aubrey made two field goals of 59 yards or longer in one game: an NFL record! Aubrey’s story shows that many paths can lead to the NFL.
