Evelin Banev-Brendo’s criminal group sent 70 million Swiss francs through accounts with the Swiss bank Credit Suisse between 2004 and 2008, the country’s prosecutor’s office said. A lawsuit is being filed against the bank, its former manager and a Bulgarian wrestling coach, Swiss media reported. The accusation is that they did not help the investigation into money laundering against Brando, which has been going on for 12 years. The case goes to court in a week.
The Bulgarian, who withheld information about Brando’s financial operations, is named as the fighter K. The former Credit Suisse manager is a lady, also a Bulgarian, who lives in Switzerland. Both are famous athletes from the dawn of democracy, an inspection of “24 hours” showed. Coach K. is 61-year-old Georgi Karamanliev. Like Brendo, he was born in Topolovgrad. Both were wrestlers in the late 80’s and early 90’s. They trained together with famous bosses of organized crime.
Karamanliev was also questioned in the case against Brando in Bulgaria. In 2011, at his home in Switzerland, police found documents linking him to the activities of Evelin Banev, then under investigation for money laundering from cocaine trafficking organized by another Bulgarian, Ivaylo Hasselbert.
Georgi Karamanliev has lived in Switzerland for more than 20 years. He was also the coach of the national team in the Alpine country. A friend of Rafi Martinetti, a former president of the World Wrestling Federation. The two also have a joint company in Bulgaria – “International Invest”, which has built a guest house in a village near Topolovgrad and is funded by money from the European program.
The Bulgarian in Credit Suisse, who will be responsible for the affair together with the bank and Karamanliev, is a former Olympic champion since 1992. She was born in 1971 and has lived in Switzerland for a long time. Her names and initials are not mentioned by the Swiss prosecutor’s office and media.
