Branches must close at these locations

Shortly after the Russian investor SCP took over the supermarket chain Real, one thing is certain: at least eight stores have to close. But other businesses could also be affected soon.

The supermarket chain Real has just a few days after the change of ownership announced the closure of eight of its 276 stores. The following locations are affected: Berlin-Spandau, Duisburg-Süd, Herten-Westerholt, Leißling-Weißenfels, Mönchengladbach-Rheydt, Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Frankenthal and Goslar.

In the coming year, they should stop operating, as Real announced on Monday. Almost 700 employees are affected. The “Lebensmittel Zeitung” had previously reported about it.

The Russian financial investor SCP only took control of Real from the Metro last Thursday. He wants to smash the group and has already agreed to sell a total of 141 Real stores to Kaufland and Edeka. The employees should be taken over. “We are also in some final negotiations with other leading companies from the German food retail industry, with the aim of securing as many jobs as possible,” emphasized the new Real boss Bojan Luncer on Thursday.

Seven branches will close this year

From the beginning, however, SCP had also made it clear that around 30 real branches would probably have to be closed due to a lack of prospects. Despite intensive efforts, no interested party could be found for the eight locations that have now been announced, the retail chain reported. Therefore only the closure remains.

“The background to this decision was the difficult economic situation in all cases due to very high losses in recent years,” emphasized a Real spokesman. “Against this background, the closings of these markets are essential.” The company would start negotiations as soon as possible with the responsible works councils about a reconciliation of interests and a social plan.

In March, Real, under the old owner Metro, announced the closure of seven branches in Bamberg, Deggendorf, Bad Sobernheim, Papenburg, Augsburg, Rheine and in Wildau near Berlin.
