Bram Moszkowicz may not return as a lawyer NOW

Bram Moszkowicz may not re-register as a lawyer, the Court of Discipline has decided on Monday. The Bar Association had previously rejected a request for the return of Moszkowicz. The former criminal attorney appealed against this.

The court finds that Moszkowicz “has not convincingly shown that he has permanently changed his behavior”.

Moszkowicz was removed from office in 2013 because, according to the Court of Discipline, he had betrayed the trust of his clients and accepted large amounts of cash without reporting it.

The Court of Discipline sees the current unclear financial situation of Moszkowicz as a problem because it can affect his independence. The former criminal attorney was declared bankrupt last year, although this was reversed on appeal this year.

The court’s decision shows that someone else has paid Moszkowicz’s tax debt. But the ex-lawyer did not want to tell under what conditions this happened.

The court also finds that Moszkowicz “has not convincingly shown that there is a permanent change in his behavior”.

Moszkowicz assisted Holleeder and Wilders

Moszkowicz owes his fame to, among other things, assisting Willem Holleeder. He retired from defending the top criminal in 2007 after discussions about his independence had arisen. Moszkowicz was also the lawyer of Willem Endstra, the man who was allegedly murdered on behalf of Holleeder. Later, Moszkowicz assisted PVV leader Geert Wilders, among others.

In 2015 Moszkowicz was presented as party leader of the party VoorNederland (VNL). However, he was expelled from the party in 2016 because he would not clearly commit to politics.
