Braga City Council is going to invest around one million euros in promoting energy efficiency in road tunnels and streets in the municipality, the municipality announced today.
In a statement, the municipality says the objective is to “reformulate” the lighting system, “to respond to the growing concerns of rationalizing energy consumption in the public lighting network, reducing consumption by changing existing luminaires with LED luminaires”.
The investment will be made under three applications to the Norte 2020 Operational Program, whose financing amounts to 881 thousand euros.
Of the three applications, the project aimed at improving energy efficiency in the Avenida da Liberdade Tunnel, an urban road route considered essential and that connects Avenida António Macedo and Avenida da Liberdade, has already been approved.
In this operation, 359 luminaires will be replaced, with an investment of around 280 thousand euros, with a share of 260 thousand.
As for the rest of the municipality’s road tunnels, the municipality is awaiting the approval of the application that provides for the replacement of 510 luminaires, with an investment of approximately 208 thousand euros, co-financed at 138 thousand.
The municipality is also awaiting approval for the execution of the project to improve the public lighting of the municipality’s streets.
This application includes the replacement of 1,964 luminaires, with an investment of more than 512 thousand euros, financed in 483 thousand.
