He is the team captain of his club team. Now Brady Tkachuk will also be the team captain for the American World Cup team that Tre Kronor will face in tomorrow’s premiere.

The USA is fielding an exciting team in this year’s Hockey World Cup in the Czech Republic. Now the team management has appointed their team captain and, not entirely illogically, the choice fell on the team’s biggest star, Brady Tkachuk.

The 24-year-old is the everyday team captain for his Ottawa Senators in the NHL and, despite his young age, has been so for the last three seasons.

The alternate captains will be Chicago Blackhawks guard Seth Jones, Columbus Blue Jackets ditto Zach Werenski and New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson.

Tkachuk, who is making his first World Cup, is coming off a season in which he accounted for 37 goals and 74 points in 81 games in Ottawa. With that, he topped the internal goals and points league. He was also second in the NHL’s ejection league behind Arizona’s Liam O’Brien with his 134 expulsion minutes.

Despite completing six NHL seasons with the club, he still has not played a single playoff game.

The USA opens the WC by meeting Tre Kronor in Ostrava tomorrow at 20.20.
