“Bradley” vs. T-90. Ukrainian moment of glory. With disclosure – 2024-02-15 20:31:23

/ world today news/ Western propagandists have drawn a lucky lottery ticket in the form of a short video, footage of which shows how a Ukrainian (actually, of course, American) Bradley infantry fighting vehicle shoots at our T-90M tank from a dagger distance . There are no limits to the happiness of Ukrainian and English speakers. But what really happened? Let’s take a look at it.

It is known that the battle took place in January in the village of Stepovoye near Donetsk. This is the same village through which our group is trying to reach Berdichi and cut off the supply line of the Avdiy group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Footage taken by a Ukrainian drone shows the Bradley from 70 meters away firing its gun into the side of our tank as it tries to turn around and leave. This is followed by a spectacularly bright flash – and the tank begins to back away and crashes into a tree as its turret appears to spin uncontrollably.

The video then cuts to footage captured by an FPV drone attacking the tank from behind. After the impact with the FPV drone, we again look at the situation through the eyes of the observer operator and see the tankers leaving the burning vehicle.

The happy squeal from the Ukrainian Telegram channels must have reached the moon. The scale of the “victory” turned out to be such that even the Western media started talking about it.

CNN report on the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle of the 47th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Avdiyivka. The story of the already famous battle between Bradley and the T-90M tank is actively used, which, of course, became a powerful advertisement for both Bradley and Western technology in general.

Well: let’s find out what really happened and what conclusions should be drawn from this episode.

analyze this

The video does not show the situation from the beginning. From the very first frame, our tank looks damaged: its turret doesn’t rotate and maybe its gun doesn’t work. The Ukrainian BMP fired long volleys from an automatic cannon, from 70 meters, some of the shots hit the side of the tank at almost a right angle, where the projectile has the best chance of penetrating the armor. However, as far as can be determined, there is not a single breakthrough. The side armor of the tank was able to withstand.

The bright flash, which the Ukrainian editors emphasized so much that they showed it three times from different angles, is the detonation of smoke grenades and the grenade launcher that fires them. Detonating them poses no threat to the tank.

The rotation of the turret during the retreat of our tank was probably due to a failure of the turret stabilizer. Vyacheslav, a veteran of the People’s Militia of the DNR, a tank commander in charge of the 1st tank company of the reserve tank battalion of the 100th brigade of the DNR, call sign “Kot”, expressed the corresponding opinion in a conversation with an observer of Tsargrad.

Most likely the turret stabilizer failed due to damage caused by the Bradley shots. Dynamic protection played its part and protected the tank from detonation of the ammunition. We can see that the entire crew is intact, so I can say with confidence that the armor and protection withstood the impact,

– explained the tanker.

On the armor issue

Our interlocutor noted that the crew and machinery and equipment can be damaged by hits in the tank even in cases where the armor of the machine is not pierced: the force of the impact is such that from the armor-piercing effect of the projectiles it melts the control instruments and injures people in him.

And we do see that the tank is damaged, yet the crew is still trying to get it out of the fight.

And it should be noted that we have something to compare the viability of our T-90 with. In late November, the command of the 44th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces sent a lone Leopard 1A5 to fire on Russian positions.

The German tank came out into the open and received a welcome bonus from our gunners: two close-range explosions of 152-mm shells. One of them landed literally a few meters from the side of the “German” and apparently he disabled the tank. The crew abandoned the armored vehicle, after which it was burned.

Yes, the 152 mm high-explosive shells are no joke, but the German tank was immobilized not by a hit, but by an explosion in the vicinity, that is, by exposure to the shock wave and, possibly, a few larger fragments. Our machine withstood a series of almost two dozen shells, most of which hit the side, and some flew under the turret of the tank.

As for the supposed death of our tank, it wasn’t the vaunted Bradley that set it on fire, but the FPV drone that attacked the damaged vehicle in the motor-transmission compartment (MTO) hood of the engine. That is, in the area with the weakest armor.

And it should be noted that now there is not a single tank in the world that can withstand the arrival of cumulative ammunition in the roof of the MTO. All models of Soviet tanks, German Leopards and Israeli Merkavs burn equally vigorously from such hits. “Abrams” would also have burned, but the prudent Americans forbade the Ukrainian command to use them in battle.

Tactics are more important than technique

In this situation, not the technical characteristics of the machines play a much bigger role, but the tactics of their use. The footage shows our tank crew fighting against an entire enemy team. The Bradley crew maneuvers, apparently receiving corrections from a drone; An FPV drone is sent to finish off the T-90. There is no visible support for our tank in the video footage (although this may be a consequence of the editing and editing of the video by the enemy).

However, the experience of modern conflicts shows that tanks do not have to fight alone. They must be “covered”, guided, warned of the approaching threat. And only with such support can steel machines reach their maximum potential.

In cases where our tankers are equipped with communications, fire support, and most importantly, “eyes” in the sky, they can work wonders. The example of the tank crew with the call sign “Alyosha” is widely known. In July, in the battles along the “Surovikin Line”, the armored vehicle advanced to repulse an enemy offensive carried out by the forces of a company from the VSU.

In the short battle, our tankers burned two Ukrainian T-72B tanks, an American M113 tracked armored personnel carrier and five American MaxxPro armored vehicles. The defeat of the enemy armored column was filmed and published on social networks.

It is clear that in war there are all kinds of situations: you can just be unlucky. However, it is necessary to fight in such a way that even one tank has maximum support and support from all units present on the battlefield.

A feast during a plague

The joy of the enemy is not difficult to understand: the Ukrainian side needs at least a little positivity against the background of the slowly but surely deteriorating situation on the fronts. The American editions got a rare reason to brag about their technology, especially since so far the Bradleys have more often burned than made desperate attacks. What’s more: at least one of them was captured by our soldiers and dragged to the rear as a trophy.

In reality, however, the real situation does not give cause for joy to the adversary.

Heavy fighting is currently taking place near Donetsk. However, we do not cede the offensive initiative to the enemy. We continue to move forward, our units entered the southern part of Avdiivka, as well as moving along the streets to the north. We see the attacks directly on Stepnoe, which is also heavily fought for,

– military expert Alexander Matyushin commented on the situation.

He also noted that after the capture of Marinka, an active offensive began towards Novomihailovka and Georgievka. At the same time, heavy fighting was taking place in Pervomaiskoye.

In general, according to our interlocutor, the situation remains difficult for everyone: the enemy is attracting reinforcements from the entire front line and with a tough defense is trying to buy time to create a strong defensive line at a depth of 20–30 km. (which is completely copied from the “Surovikin Line”) and already relying on it, to continue the battle.

Although the outcome of the battle for Donetsk is already clear: the enemy will be driven from the city. Although at the cost of heavy losses from both our advancing units and the Ukrainian units, which lost several times more people than us,

– said Matyushin.

What comes next in the end

Things are gradually changing for the enemy from bad to worse. This is why their propagandists cling so desperately to any case that can present them in a more favorable light and look a little like a “victory”.

On the other hand, already at the stage of preparation for the handover of the Bradley to the Ukrainian army, Tsargrad warned that the funny jokes about aluminum armor and 25 mm guns are completely unnecessary. We immediately noted that this armored fighting vehicle could be dangerous for both infantry and our tanks.

And it is not for nothing that he has become the main combat vehicle of the infantry of the Americans (who, contrary to the jokes of some famous satirists, are not at all dumb or stupid).

In general, we must remember that there are no harmless, ridiculous or absurd weapons in the hands of the enemy.

However, the enemy’s position is now such that no Western weapons will help him. Yes, the ASU can effectively counter, successfully defend in their own way, and maybe somewhere even go on the offensive. But in the end Victory will be ours. The main thing is not to relax and not lose heart.
