MOSCOWCombat vehicle The Bradley infantry supplied by the United States (US) to Ukraine appeared to have its armor torn through by Russian T-72 tank ammunition. Although part of the hull was torn apart by the ammunition, Bradley was seen still moving and the weapon system was still functioning properly.

In the video spread on social media, Bradley appears to have escaped death after being confronted Russian T-72 tank . An infantry soldier seemed able to operate the Bradley still on the battlefield, even though a torn hull was hit by a T-72 tank projectile.

“Tank ammunition hit Bradley’s hull under the turret. Thus, only Bradley’s structure is affected, not its function. The turrets and weapons are working, and the propulsion unit is also working well,” wrote the Bulgarian Military, Tuesday (18/7/2023).

There were several reasons why the shells of the T-72 tanks failed to destroy the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle. For one reason, the tank’s ammunition only hit the corners of Bradley’s body.

So the T-72 tank’s projectiles were able to partially sever Bradley’s armor but did not penetrate the vehicle to cause damage. Such capabilities are called “suboptimal breakouts”.

This ability is owned by Bradley because the armor used is designed to deflect projectiles so that they only cause minor damage and the vehicle continues to function. Bradley is designed to withstand damage and continue to operate even if it is hit by a projectile.

It is possible that the projectile penetrated Bradley’s bumper, but did not cause any major disabling damage to the vehicle. The projectiles cause damage to non-critical systems or components, but do not disable the vehicle’s ability to move.
