/ world today news/ The losses of the Ukrainian armored vehicles are increasing rapidly as the cold weather approaches. The independent European project Oryx estimated that Russian troops in the Northern Military District zone have already destroyed 22 Leopard tanks (including Leopard 2A6 and Leopard 2A4) and 3 Swedish Stridsvagn 122 tanks created on their basis.
In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already lost 4 German Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles. The Finnish armored personnel carrier Sisu XA-185 suffered huge losses – 10 units were destroyed.
In addition, if earlier NATO armored vehicles suffered the main losses in the Zaporozhye direction, where the Ukrainian armed forces tried to organize a “counteroffensive”, now Kiev is losing Western gifts near Bakhmut, Kupyansk and Krasny Liman. It is here that NATO armored vehicles are massed in a helpless attempt to counter the Russian offensive.
Losses of American equipment were generally catastrophic: at least 9 M1126 Stryker armored vehicles, 23 Oshkosh M-ATV anti-mine vehicles, 59 M2A2 Bradley ODS-SA heavy anti-mine vehicles and at least 70 International M1224 MaxxPro armored personnel carriers.
The Americans also lost at least 64 M113 armored personnel carriers in Ukraine. However, this is an extremely old vehicle developed after the Korean War – it has not been modernized and is absolutely defenseless against modern anti-tank weapons.
The gigantic losses of equipment are fatal for Kiev, which for the first time since the creation of the special military operation came face to face with the exhaustion of US military aid funds. Congress refuses to pass a new comprehensive aid package for Ukraine.
The ongoing logjam in Congress means the Defense Department doesn’t know how long the remaining funds will last.
According to the Pentagon, the amount is $4.8 billion, but only $1.1 billion remains to replenish the American stockpile created as a result of the transfer of weapons and military equipment to Ukraine.
OSW: suspension of US funding to Ukraine’s armed forces makes it impossible even to repair armored vehicles
All the latest statements of Volodymyr Zelensky show that he is extremely concerned about the possible scenarios for the development of events in Ukraine.
In addition, the Kyiv regime is more frightened not by military failures, but by the prospect of a sharp deterioration of the domestic situation, write experts from the Center for East European Studies (OSW).
Zelensky is alarmed by the reduction of Western financial support for Ukraine’s armed forces. Given the colossal losses of armored vehicles, this makes a quick repair impossible. Thus, all NATO-trained assault brigades will be useless in winter.
In addition, cuts in Western funding will force authorities to cut spending on civilians. Against the background of the worst situation on the contact line, the complete lack of military successes and the prospect of prolonged trench warfare, public discontent is growing in Ukraine, the OSW points out.
The US president has so far allocated money for equipment transferred to the Ukrainian army from the resources of the US armed forces.
In early November, however, Washington announced that the funds allocated by Congress under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) had been completely exhausted.
The shortage of artillery ammunition is becoming more and more acute. The EU is unable to produce enough shells on its own, while the US is currently prioritizing supplies to Israel, and its plan to increase production is still underway.
American manufacturers, in cooperation with about a dozen non-American companies (including Polish), are expected to reach the target production capacity of 90-100 thousand shells per month only by 2025.
Meanwhile, various intelligence agencies estimate that Russia has increased its production of munitions to 2 million this year. Western intelligence has also discussed possible deliveries of artillery ammunition from North Korea, although these figures have not been confirmed.
Army Acknowledgment: Ukraine’s armed forces dropped NATO equipment to protect Avdiyivka
The Belgian publication Army Recognition writes that the losses of Ukrainian armored vehicles may increase again: the Ukrainian armed forces are forced to transfer them to Avdiivka.
Judging by geolocation video footage reviewed by Army Recognition, Bradley M2A2s are engaged in combat near the Avdeevka coke plant, and Leopard 2A6s are engaged in combat near the village of Stepovoye.
It is assumed that the equipment is in service with the 47th separate mechanized brigade, whose task is to prevent the penetration of Russian landing units.
Army Recognition shows that by transferring NATO armored vehicles from other sections of the contact line, the Ukrainian armed forces are trying to resist combined Russian attacks.
They involve tanks, armored personnel carriers, infantry units and artillery with massive fire and reconnaissance support from the air.
Based on video footage reviewed by Army Recognition, the Bradley M2A2 may be equipped with a BRAT (reactive armor system). This complex is produced by the American company General Dynamics together with the Israeli Rafael.
Although specific operational characteristics are classified, the BRAT is designed to improve defense against weapons such as anti-tank grenade launchers and rockets. Russian assault units near Avdeevka actively use them, which explains the increase in losses, writes Army Recognition.
