Budapest – Despite the Hollywood strike by actors and writers, Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 film continues shooting at the Budapest Grand Prix.
“Fortunately we can continue. Hopefully we can get some important parts of the film done here,” said record world champion Lewis Hamilton, who is co-producing and advising on the project.
Before the eleventh round of the season at the Hungaroring on Sunday, a separate garage for the fictitious Apex racing team around superstar Pitt was set up, just like last time at Silverstone. Actors in the team’s racing suits already walked through the paddock on Thursday. Racing scenes and other footage for the film is expected to be filmed at the track.
Shooting schedules open
How much the original shooting plans would have to be curtailed by the strike and whether Pitt himself would travel to Budapest remained open at first. After the screenwriters, all unionized actors of the more than 160,000 members SAG-AFTRA recently went on strike. The strike is about better pay and regulations for the use of artificial intelligence. Pitt is also a member of the actors’ union.
While still at Silverstone, he threw himself into the filming of the Formula 1 strip with great enthusiasm. The 59-year-old plays a racing driver who leaves Formula 1 after an accident and returns years later because the boss of an unsuccessful team asks him for help. Director is Joseph Kosinski, producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Both also filmed the mega hit “Top Gun: Maverick” together.
Mercedes driver Hamilton was very impressed with the interim result of the Formula 1 project. “I’ve now seen a few scenes that have increased my anticipation for the end result,” said the 38-year-old Brit.
