George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Austin Abrams in “Wolves”

STREAMING – They’re a bit old, but their on-screen chemistry is intact. Brad Pitt and George Clooney star in the film Wolfssigned Jon Watts, and online on the Apple TV+ platform this Friday, September 27. Sixteen years later, Burn After Readingthe last feature in which they both starred, this black comedy brings them together again in the guise of two rival “cleaners” forced to collaborate.

Called to a crime scene after the accidental death of a young man in a hotel room, they are forced to temporarily team up to solve a case that is more complex than it seems. The result is a delicious reunion for the actors and the spectators.

Clooney – Pitt alchemy

Wolfs is a comedy in a dark but very funny package. And George Clooney and Brad Pitt, friends for several decades in the city, visibly take great pleasure in playing these two grumpy misanthropes, in particular thanks to the dialogues on the line.

Jon Watts also chose these two actors not only because of the friendship between them. Aged 63 and 60 respectively, the two “sacred monsters” of cinema are also a little battered. Several times in the film, their “great” age is mentioned, with allusions to their back problems, or their poor eyesight for example. A way to have fun with their status as immortal icons in Hollywood.

Austin Abrams reveals true comedic potential

In the middle of the adventures which add to each other and complicate a mission on paper which is rather calm, intervenes the third key character of Wolfs. The victim in kangaroo underwear, the dead man who is ultimately not dead (as the trailer already revealed), is played by Austin Abrams. The comic potential of the young actor seen in This Is Us, Dash & Lily or even Euphoriais a very good surprise.

Without big explosions or hemoglobin outpourings, Wolfs manages to captivate us perfectly. And it is notably thanks to its rhythm, in addition to the replicas which fly much more than the bullets, the story takes place in only a few places and over a single night. With a division into acts like in the theater, there is not much missing to give the relationship between Pitt and Clooney a vaudeville air.
