Brabant criminal arrested in Spain, disappeared in 2017 after conviction | NOW

66-year-old Brabant criminal Koos R. was arrested in Spain on Wednesday evening, after he disappeared in 2017 when he was sentenced to four years in prison. This is reported by the Public Prosecution Service (OM) Thursday. R. was convicted of attempted manslaughter of two police officers. R. is related to Brabant ‘mafia boss’ Martien R ..

The police and the Public Prosecution Service had long thought that R. could possibly be abroad and the man had also been reported internationally. On Wednesday around 6 p.m., R. was found during a police check in the Spanish city of Málaga.

The Public Prosecution Service was informed of the arrest on Thursday and the surrender procedure is already being set in motion. Press officer Janine Kramer says in a press release: “It is good that he can now serve his sentence. The facts for which he has been convicted are not insignificant and thanks to the Spanish colleagues he has now been arrested.”

R. was chased in October 2014 by two police officers in the Brabant town of Lith. Speeds of up to 150 kilometers per hour were achieved. R. tried to push the officers off the road, but eventually came to a stop himself in a ditch. De Brabander then sprayed pepper spray in the eyes of one of the officers.

R.’s 61-year-old brother, Martin R., had already been arrested in this case. He is still in prison.
