‘Brabant’ by Guus Meeuwis but in German: ‘Und dann denke ich an Köln…’

We have known for years that Guus Meeuwis’ ‘Brabant’ is a fantastic song. In Germany they are now finally behind thanks to a cover of the well-known band Bläck Fööss, together with Hape Kerkeling. Although they have unfortunately replaced Brabant by the German city of Cologne.

The well-known Cologne band mainly makes carnival music, but occasionally also deviates from schlager and pop music. The cover of Guus Meeuwis is very well received by the Germans. In less than a day, the cover has been viewed 75,000 times their Facebook page. Most reactions are very positive.

The song can be heard here:

Nice
Yet there are plenty of German music fans who also know the original: ‘Das Lied von Guus Meeuwis ist so schön und eure Version ist auch so schön herzerwärmend’, someone writes. In other words: ‘That song by Guus Meeuwis is so beautiful and your version is also beautifully heartwarming’.

Another writes (in German): ‘I have loved Guus Meeuwis’ original version for a long time. My partner is from Noord-Brabant and the song has been an unofficial National Anthem there for years.

The text of ‘Brabant’ has largely been translated literally into German. Thus the song begins with: ‘A cap on my head, my collar is up. It’s freezing here and the wind is blowing too ‘.

What Guus thinks of the cover is not yet known.
