BR24live: Cabinet advises on basic corona protection

Actually, the CSU members in the state government wanted more: In view of the dynamic infection process, at least the obligation to wear masks indoors should be maintained across the board for the time being. However, according to the new Infection Protection Act, the federal states could only have ordered this from April 3 via a hotspot regulation by state parliament resolution.

Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) already rejected this possibility on Monday. The hotspot regulation in the federal law is too uncertain, too little court-proof, said Bavaria’s Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek (CSU).

Cabinet only wants to recommend mask

Bavaria then only has the implementation of a so-called basic protection: the mask requirement in local public transport (the federal government has already decreed this in long-distance transport), the mask requirement in nursing homes and clinics and a test requirement in the care sector and in schools. Everything else is now up to the free decision of the people.

Therefore, according to Holetschek, the cabinet will make the “stringent recommendation” to continue wearing the mask indoors in view of the highly infectious omicron variant – i.e. also when shopping or at a concert. More is not possible for Holetschek with the new legal situation. That is very much in the interests of the cabinet colleagues from the Free Voters. They rely on voluntary mask wearing anyway.
