Bpost CEO Dirk Tirez has to step down due to irregularities in newspaper distribution permit

The Federal Minister of Public Enterprises Petra De Sutter (Greens) defines the whole affair “another blow to the postmen and their colleagues who see their manager leave again before the busiest weeks of the year”. But according to Minister De Sutter, there was no longer a place for Dirk Tirez at Bpost due to unacceptable practices under his leadership.

“A director of Bpost is a director of a public company and then you have to set a good example. From the analysis of the board of directors I conclude that this was not the case, which means that there is no future for him in Bpost .” De Sutter says.

N-VA member of parliament Michael Freilich, who follows the dossier closely and has put it on the political agenda, finds De Sutter’s sharp words impressive. “It seems clear to me that Tirez was actually fired for gross negligence. I also understand that there is no severance pay,” says Freilich.

He requests an emergency hearing in the Chamber and wants the investigation to be extended to the board of directors of Bpost. “The chairman, Ms. Hanard, has a PS signature. It is known that the PS is a strong supporter of the millionaire contract with Bpost. We have serious doubts about Ms. Hanard’s role. She was the one who requested the internal audit. Why “Ha procrastinated so long? You didn’t even ask for an external audit. With an internal audit you are both a party and a judge at the same time, that’s easy.”
