EtO), with levels exceeding the limits permitted by the European Union (EU), in Haagen-Dazs brand Vanilla Ice Cream.

The product being recalled is the brand Vanilla Ice Cream Haagen-Dazs pint and mini cup packaging. Ice cream products with the same brand for 100 ml and 473 ml packages imported from France are registered with the POM and circulated in Indonesia.
“To protect the public, the POM has instructed importers to withdraw from circulation the two Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Flavored Ice Cream products and expand the recall to other types of packaging, namely bulkcan (9.46 L). Furthermore, as a precautionary measure “Be careful, the POM Agency also instructs importers to temporarily stop the circulation/sale of other Haagen-Dazs brand ice cream products with a composition containing vanilla flavor until the product is confirmed to be safe,” reads the announcement on the POM website.
The POM Agency oversees and ensures that the withdrawal and/or temporary suspension of the circulation/sale of the product as described in the attachment is carried out in accordance with the applicable procedures. Other Haagen-Dazs brand ice cream registered with the POM can still be circulated in Indonesia.
The POM is in the process of conducting a policy review regarding EtO, including monitoring the latest developments in international food safety regulations and standards, as well as conducting sampling and testing to determine the level of exposure. As is known, EtO is a pesticide that functions as a fumigant. The finding of EtO residues in food is an emerging issue that began with a notification by EURASFF in 2020. The Codex Allimentarius Commission (CAC) as an international organization under WHO/FAO has not set the maximum limit for EtO residues so that the settings vary in each country.
“If people find branded ice cream products Haagen-Dazs With the vanilla flavor variant and/or the variant with a composition containing vanilla flavoring, it is still circulating, so that you should report it to the POM Agency through the HALOBPOM Contact Center or the Consumer Complaints Service Unit (ULPK) of the Great Hall/Police/Loka POM throughout Indonesia,” he said.
The POM Agency continuously conducts pre- and post-market monitoring and supervision of the circulating facilities and products for the protection of public health and ensures that products registered with the POM Agency and circulating in Indonesia are safe for consumption.
“The Indonesian POM Agency invites the public to be smart consumers in buying food products. Always remember “Click Check” (Check Packaging, Labels, Circulation and Expiration Permits) before buying or consuming food products,” he concluded.
