BPOM will give special access to 3 monkey pox medicines coming into Indonesia

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gives special access to three medicines copening a monkey or Mpox so you can enter Indonesia immediately.

BPOM CEO Taruna Ikrar gave details of these three drugs for Mpox patients namely tecovirimat, cidofovir and brincidofovir.

“These three medicines have been produced and we also hope through the Ministry of Health that we will give a special opportunity to enter Indonesia,” said Taruna at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Tuesday ( 27/8).

In addition to medicine, according to him, the government also plans to import the Mpox vaccine from abroad. He said that Jynneos vaccine is one of them which is useful for prevention and treatment.

“So in Indonesia, also through special access, we already have about 7,600 doses,” he said.

Cadets also believe that Indonesia will be able to handle the Mpox disease because they have two to three years of experience in dealing with the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19).

He assured that BPOM together with the Ministry of Health would make every effort to prevent the spread of Mpox cases in Indonesia.

“So I am sure that BPOM, in collaboration with all stakeholders, is following the President’s directive, of course we will try to protect people and go with him to the h -highest level, especially for key drug and food control functions,” he said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on August 14 designated Mpox as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) after an increase in Mpox cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo and several countries in Africa.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health noted that as of August 2024, Indonesia had reported 88 confirmed cases of Mpox from 2023-2024.

The most confirmed cases were in Jakarta, which is up to 59 cases. West Java continues with 13 cases, followed by Banten with nine confirmed cases.
