BPOM RI Opens Voice about Many Countries Withdraw Kinder Chocolate Snacks

Jakarta

The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM RI) emphasized that it would take a number of steps regarding the finding of Kinder chocolate egg snacks contaminated with Salmonella. So far, there are 10 countries that have reported cases of Salmonella, namely England, France, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and most recently Singapore.

According to the Head of BPOM RI Penny K Lukito, the distribution permit for Kinder chocolate egg snack products circulating in Indonesia is different. Not manufactured with similar manufacturers reporting Salmonella contamination.

“For this, BPOM has taken steps, even though the ones that circulate and get BPOM’s distribution license do not come from the same factory,” Penny explained to detik.com Monday (11/3/2022).

Penny has not detailed what steps will be taken, including whether there is an anticipation of the temporary withdrawal of product licenses. However, certain Kinder brands were withdrawn from circulation in many countries such as the following:

  • Children’s Surprise
  • Children’s Mini Eggs
  • Kinder Egg Hunt Kit.

One of the Asian countries, namely Singapore, which has recalled a number of Kinder products, has urged its citizens to immediately report to the nearest health facility if they complain of a number of symptoms of Salmonella infection. Quoted from the Mayo Clinic, the symptoms that usually appear are as follows:

  • Nauseous
  • Throw up
  • stomach cramps
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Blood in the stool
