JAKARTA, iNews.id The government is trying to continue to fill the needs of the Covid-19 vaccine for the community. For development red and white vaccine himself, Director of Drug Registration of the POM Agency, Dr. Lucia Rizka Andalusia said that until now the Red and White vaccine is in the stage of entering the clinical trial phase.
“Red and White Vaccine, immediately enter the clinical trial stage. Currently it is still in the pre-clinical stage,” said Dr Lucia Rizka, in a webinar broadcast Highlighting the Legality of the Covid-19 Vaccine Clinical Trial – IKAFH UNDIP, Friday (23/7/2021).
Lucia added, for the process of developing the Red and White vaccine using the experimental method on animals.
“Using two experimental animals, namely the Makaka, it is a type of primate that is close to the human profile. It is necessary to carry out comprehensive testing on these animals,” he said.
Dr. Lucia Rizka revealed that so far there are about two domestic vaccine candidates that are being pushed to accelerate production. The first is from Eijkman (recombinant protein subunit) with progress in the seed vaccine optimization stage and the second is from UNAIR (inactivated virus) which is already in the pre-clinical and pilot scale testing stages.
With a population of 180 million people, Indonesia needs around 400 million Covid-19 vaccines for the program vaccination national. The government has tried various doors to obtain vaccines, starting from multilateral cooperation such as vaccine supply through the COVA Facility, B to B (business to business) cooperation with vaccine procurement (import) cooperation and technology transfer. Until the development of domestic vaccines through the development of the Red and White vaccine and research collaborations with institutions abroad.
