At the turn of the year 2020/2021, the federal police monitored train stations and trains. The focus of the Federal Police Inspectorate in Bremen was on keeping distance requirements, the obligation to wear mouth and nose protection and the ban on the use of fireworks on railway systems. Compared to previous years, there were fewer travelers on New Year’s Eve. In spite of this, 57 predominantly drunk people had to be warned by New Year’s morning and the identities of 46 people had to be established in order to prevent conflicts from the outset and consequently to prevent further criminal offenses.
Four 16-year-old youths who were taken into custody after escaping from a north-west railway were particularly negative. They are said to have belonged to a group of 15 people who were waiting for the train to Bremen at Delmenhorst station around midnight. A 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman wished them “a happy new year,” which, according to initial investigations, led to an argument. On the short drive to Bremen main station, several suspects of this group are said to have injured the 24-year-old with hits and kicks. The woman was also beaten when she interfered – she suffered bruises and abrasions. Both want to get medical treatment today.
The group fled the train through several exits on arrival in Bremen. On the basis of the first personal descriptions, three German and one Spanish youth from Bremen were identified in the vicinity of the main train station – they were picked up by their parents at the station.
The federal police will evaluate video recordings from the Nordwestbahn and from the exit of the group in Bremen main station. Investigations into dangerous bodily harm are ongoing. Information is requested from witnesses who were waiting on the platform in Delmenhorst at around 00:30 a.m. and who were traveling with the Nordwestbahn: Telephone 0421 / 16299-777
