The Federal Police Inspectorate in Frankfurt am Main was informed early on Tuesday morning, around 3:50 a.m., that dangerous goods had escaped from a tank wagon at the goods station in Offenbach Ost. According to the initial report, this should be an environmentally hazardous liquid substance.

Forces from the Frankfurt am Main fire brigade and officers from the Federal Police were then deployed to clarify the situation and a large-scale blocking of the surrounding rail traffic was arranged.

After extensive investigations, it was determined that the escaping liquid was not the substance initially reported, but hydraulic oil, which is used to ventilate and bleed the brakes on the train. The route was then completely reopened at around 06:50.

The large-scale closures in the Offenbach area had a significant impact on rail operations, including commuter traffic.
