Bozhidar Dimitrov: Turkey sets a good example of how to behave with Russia – 2024-10-01 04:04:29

/ world today news/ Turkey may provide Russia with the opportunity to use the Incirlik airbase in the fight against the Islamic State, TASS agency reported. The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. Later he himself officially denied the information.

However, provoked by these messages, Prof. Bozhidar Dimitrov came out with the following comment:

“This is also a good example for our politicians how to treat Russia. Whatever it is about Ukraine at the moment, Russia is a big and rich country and bad relations with it, sometimes caused by personal considerations of prestige, bring only losses to a smaller country.

The downing of an outdated Russian plane, which indeed Turkey and especially its President Erdogan did this spring precisely for reasons of prestige (see how great, independent, strong and independent I am), has resulted in monstrous defeats for the Turkish economy.

Russian tourists dropped by 92 percent, and they were a few million a year. Trade also decreased – Turkish vegetables, which flooded the markets of large Russian cities, dried up. The Russians began to get them from elsewhere. Simple work – Bulgarians and Hungarians sell tomatoes to Macedonian and Serbian companies, and they resell them to Russia. These are countries that do not participate in the European embargo on Moscow. And everyone wins.

But the construction bans were the worst blow to Turkey. Few people know that the giant sites in Sochi, Moscow and other Russian cities, where there is unprecedented construction, were carried out mainly by Turkish companies that won the government contracts. They built cheaply, but also qualitatively.

Thus, Erdogan had to sacrifice his prestige, first writing an apology letter to Putin, and then it was hinted that his country could provide the Turkish base “Incirlik” for the Russian aviation.

She is the pride of Turkey. Located behind the Bosphorus, in Eastern Thrace, the base is not only the largest, but also the closest to Bulgaria and Syria. During the Cold War, when I served at Graf Ignatievo Air Force Base in 1964-66, we were tasked in the event of war to destroy Incirlik.

The base today often becomes a bargaining chip in political bargaining. For example, the Turks did not give it to the Americans during the Iraq war. And now they are ready to provide it to the Russians!

In order to explain this gesture, we can imagine that the Bulgarian President Plevneliev announced tomorrow that he is handing over the base in Graf Ignatievo to the Russian aviation in order to fly from there to Syria.

All this is a good example for the Bulgarian politicians, who tried to turn a mild invasion of a group of rockers into a dangerous invasion”.
