Boys went to school to protest against sexist rules

Several boys from a college in Quebec, Canada, decided to go to school in a skirt, to protest against rules that they consider “sexist”. Teenagers at Collège Nouvelles Frontières do not agree with the rule that girls should wear their skirts 10 cm above the knee, while there are no dress rules for boys. Thus, they decided to protest in order to support women’s rights and to break the stereotype that a man cannot wear women’s clothing without ceasing to be “a real man”.

Zachary Paulin, 16, one of the high school students who participated in the protest, shared a photo with other classmates to talk about the subject. “By now, some of you have probably noticed that these guys, like yours, are wearing skirts. Well, let me tell you why this gesture ”, started by writing in the publication shared on social networks.

“The double standard of how a woman and a man must present themselves in the eyes of society is striking; if a woman wears a suit and pants, clothes associated with masculinity, nothing else is thought of. But, because of the toxic masculinity, if a boy is going to do something feminine, be it painting his nails, makeup or, in our case, a skirt, he is bombarded with insults. Let’s say you are not a real man and we will immediately assume your sexual orientation, ”he added.

“Furthermore, the skirt is sometimes a way for some schools to unconsciously abuse the dress code (…) abusers will excuse their actions by sexualizing women in an unnecessary and rude way. Thus, when wearing the skirt, we sympathize with women in society who are constantly being sexualized “, he defended.

“We do not accept discrimination, homophobia and sexism. This is what our skirt represents ”, he concluded.
